Inside
Released: January 2004
 |
While I have done some recording projects off and on, "Inside" was my first
real album that I created.
I decided that before I started recording it, I wanted to write all of the
material up front. I felt that by doing it this way, I would really get the
chance to make the songs my own before recording them. So, from 1999 until
2003, I wrote about 15 songs, ten of which ended up making the final cut.
In June of 2003, I finally had reached the point where I was ready to record. I
set up a studio (dubbed Dark Mountain Studios, after the street I grew up on in
Maine) in our spare bedroom. Over the next several months I began recording in
whatever spare time I had. By December I had recorded all 15 songs, some of
which I liked more than others. Since the original version of the album clocked
in at almost 70 minutes, I decided to pare the track list down by removing some
of the songs I wasn't sure about (such as "First Light" and "Fear of Flying").
I spent the rest of the year mixing down and cleaning up bits and pieces and
the final product was ready for release on New Years day 2004.
